Amy Gruber Psy.D.

Clinical Psychologist & Assessment Specialist

I provide therapy for children, adolescents, parents and couples. I offer support with identifying patterns in relationships and behaviors that can result in increased awareness and understanding with how we relate to ourselves, others, and even our own experiences. My direct, yet compassionate approach can help cultivate the courage to be vulnerable and open to taking the necessary steps to generate positive change.

I also provide Psychological Testing, utilizing a therapeutic, collaborative approach. This type of psychological assessment is inclusive and client-centered. The focus is on answering questions posed by the individual, caregivers or other significant figures in one's life. The information obtained from assessments is used to generate referrals to deepen one's understanding of how or why they operate as they do and to begin to make movement towards improving one's overall functioning.

A Bit About Therapy

Choosing therapy is an important and courageous decision that often stems from a hope for personal evolution. A collaborative, kind, and curious approach allows us to work together to make healthy, lasting changes.

Bloom

I implement effective, culturally informed psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding among patients. Together we will cultivate ways to adopt new perspectives and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates authentic participation and investment from the client and therapist alike. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.

About Me

I'm here to support you in having a greater sense of understanding yourself.

Ever since I was young, I was drawn to  take in what makes each of us who we are. I have a natural and genuine curiosity towards understanding how the multiple layers of our cultural identity, history, and past experiences weave together, influencing how we perceive and respond to others and the world around us.

Since 2006,  I have worked with a diverse group of clients with a wide range of issues in a variety of settings, including my private practice, schools, college clinics, and community mental health clinics. I have trained, held medical appointments, and supervised trainees and doctoral-level psychology interns (postdoc and predoc) at local hospitals and clinics.

I truly care for all of my clients, and work diligently to help find them the answers they seek. Contact me to get the support you need.

Psychological Assessment

I offer Therapeutic Collaborative Assessment for adolescents and children to help answer pressing questions posed by the youth and parents/caregivers about one's cognitive and/or emotional abilities. I work to identify one's strengths and difficulties, which also provides insight into a child's behaviors and functioning. This type of assessment is typically used as a map to help guide the patient, as well as others involved in the patients life, how to navigate through difficulties.  The results are integrated into a full report and/or thoughtful, developmentally appropriate feedback. This includes resources, recommendations, and referrals arranged to address relevant needs that can also be used to inform ongoing services.

Couples Therapy

Couples and romantic partners seek psychotherapy for many reasons and at many different stages of their lives, even when they are not experiencing any overt difficulties.  Couples Therapy can help individuals deepen their connections, understand their own motivations, fears, and expectations.
Common outcomes often include improved communication skills, an increased understanding of each others' strengths and vulnerabilities within the relationship, and the correlation between early life experiences and one's current patterns in relationships. An authentic, inclusive, and thoughtful approach supports an environment for curiosity and deep exploration.

Child & Adolescent Therapy

When providing therapy to youth clients, I take into account the developmental context, milestones and struggles common in child development including the evolution of one's self-identity.  I also work collaboratively with caregivers as part of the treatment, no matter the age of the child.  In order for treatment to be successful, I partner with the parent and child to identify and understand the needs of the child, the caregiver, and the family system.

Individual Adult Therapy

Adults enter therapy with a variety of difficulties and/or with a desire to gain personal insight and awareness.  I provide an empathic and supportive space to help you explore your perspective and situation, while working towards your own personal goals and evolution.  I rely upon a curious, human-centered, collaborative, and strengths-based approach to treatment where vulnerability can often transform into empowerment.
